About the study

This is a pragmatic randomised controlled trial to determine whether veno-venous Extracorporeal Carbon Dioxide Removal (VV-ECCO2R) and lower tidal volume ventilation in mechanically ventilated patients with hypoxaemic respiratory failure improves 90 day mortality.

This study of 1120 patients in at least 40 Intensive Care Units will be randomized to receive ECCO2R or standard care for at least 48 hours and up to 7 days.
